Wimbledon champ Murray set for ace Abu Dhabi return

wimbledonchamp01Game, Set, Rematch! 2013 Wimbledon winner Andy Murray will have a chance to defend his victory over Novak Djokovic in the capital later this year at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.

Announced earlier this week, Murray is the second player, after world ranked No.1 Novak Djokovic, to confirm his attendance for the star-studded line up at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.

Murray made headlines around the globe earlier this week for becoming the first British male to win the singles event at Wimbledon since Fred Perry’s win in 1936. The historic match saw the Scot defeat Djokovic in straight sets and secure the win on his fourth championship point to win 6-4, 7-5, 6-4.

“I’ve always received great support when I’ve played in Abu Dhabi,” said Murray. “And I’m looking forward to getting back on the court and trying to win the title again – like I first did back in 2009.”

Neither player has come head-to-head with the other in their two previous appearances here in the capital. To be held from 26th to 28th December, fans of the tournament are eagerly awaiting a possible rematch.

Djokovic currently holds the Mubadala World Tennis Championship crown and will be aiming for his third straight win at the tournament this year. Murray took home the inaugural title in 2009 and returned to Abu Dhabi again in 2012 when he suffered a shock first round exit to Serbian Janko Tipsarevic.

The annual tournament, which sees six of the world’s top players compete for three days at the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex at Zayed Sports City. Tickets are already on sale and are available from www.ticketmaster.ae and 800 TM UAE (86 823). Prices start from AED 50 and all tickets sold before September will be entered into a draw to win a VIP tournament experience including the chance to meet Djokovic at the Official Players’ Reception and an overnight stay at Yas Viceroy Hotel.
