The F1 may be over for another year but there are still plenty of reasons to take a spin out to the Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi – the capital’s most iconic hotel, custom-built to sit over the Yas Marina Formula 1 Circuit. One reason is the Amici Italian restaurant.
Amici has recently welcomed chef Angelo Albera to the team. He introduced the ‘Discover Italy with Chef Angelo’ on Wednesdays, which featured a set menu of dishes from different region of Italy. The main course changed every week, so guests had the opportunity to sample all of chef Albera’s signature dishes.
When we visited Amici, meaning friends in English, we had a choice of three different classic Italian starters, mains and desserts including seafood risotto, pizza, mushroom and fontina ravioli and tiramisu.
We tried the pizza starter, seafood risotto and mint panna cotta for dessert. The pizza portion was huge and the toppings flavourful; Gulf prawns, tomato, olives and artichoke. So far so good. Next up we had the risotto al frutti di mare – risotto with prawns, clams, mussels and scallops, with Parmesan sprinkled on top. The combination of seafood meant that every mouthful provided a different taste and texture.
To finish we sampled the mint panna cotta with bitter chocolate sauce. Although it was tasty we had food envy when a waitress walked past carrying the apple and fig strudel with vanilla ice cream, which looked incredible.
After we finished eating, we headed upstairs to Skylite Rooftop Lounge for Fashion Wednesday, where the capital’s lucky ladies can enjoy free mixed beverages and be in with a chance of winning an AED 2,000 voucher for designer shoes by Manolo Blahnik. While we didn’t win the grand prize on the night, it was worth going to witness the winner’s ecstatic reaction, which was hilarious!
