Firefighters from around the world will be descending on the capital to see who has a fighting chance at prizes valued at a total of US $150,000.

The UAE World Firefighter Challenge 2014 will be hosted in Abu Dhabi from 1st to 3rd April at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre as part of the International Exhibition for Security & National Resilience (ISNR) Abu Dhabi 2014.

Considered the first event of its kind in the Middle East, the challenge will see firefighters take part in competitions testing their fitness, stamina and innovation.

The Ministry of Interior in partnership with UAE-based 911 Firefighting Group is organising the challenge and expects to see a large turnout of both local and international participants. Registration is currently open until 15th March. Companies and organisations who wish to participate should submit their applications via www.911-challenge.com.

“The establishment of a competition such as this is aimed at motivating firefighters to keep going and to maintain a healthily competitive atmosphere for fitness, stamina, skills and decision-making, especially as it relates to fires, accidents, and other emergencies where saving a person’s life is about the seconds it takes, not the minutes,” said Major General Dr Obaid Al Ketbi, deputy general commander of Abu Dhabi Police and chairman of the organising committee of ISNR Abu Dhabi 2014.

Hosted as part of the ISNR Abu Dhabi 2014 exhibition, the challenge will be held under the patronage of Lieutenant General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
