TWO ace Abu Dhabi youngsters served themselves up an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, after winning at a tennis tournament in the city.
Youngsters in the capital got the chance to show off their love for tennis at the Mubadala Community Cup, held at various locations around the city, with the added incentive of the winners and runners-up getting a coaching session with the stars of the upcoming Mubadala World Tennis Championship.
Battling for the ultimate prize, the contest saw the under-12s and under-16s take to the courts in a round robin tournament, with under-12s winner Patrick Wong and runner-up Ismail Badr both winning the chance of a lifetime with a special clinic on the courts with their sporting heroes.
“My favourite player is Novak Djokovic and I would love the opportunity to play against him in Abu Dhabi, because I like him as a player off the court as well as on,” said Wong, who after playing tennis for five years was in a good position to succeed.
Runner-up Badr revealed that Scotsman Andy Murray would be his ultimate challenger. “I’ve been playing tennis since I was eight years old and want to join the Community Cup again next year,” he said.
The boys will be joined by two lucky raffle draw winners at a special meet-and-greet with the pros during the Mubadala World Tennis Championships, which run from 26th to 28th December.
This year’s Mubadala World Tennis Championship boasts one of the strongest line-ups to date, with Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer, Andy Murray, Stanislas Wawrinka and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga all vying for victory.
