Already a well-established sports bar in the capital, Cooper’s at Park Rotana doesn’t need much in the way of an introduction.
The British-style pub, marked by its mahogany walls, monochrome tiles and sporting relics, was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday evening, a low buzz created by friends and colleagues catching up over a quiet drink.
Choosing from their tempting new menu proved difficult. The selection is ideal, offering a choice of bar bites, gourmet sandwiches, juicy burgers, golden pies and hearty mains.
Knowing the generous portion sizes at Cooper’s, we opted to go straight for main courses. A flaky steak and Guinness pie, filled with chunks of tender beef in a rich gravy, came beautifully presented in a cast iron dish with a mini pot of cheesy mashed potatoes providing the perfect side. For the vegetarian, a juicy portabello mushroom burger came topped with grilled gouda cheese, baby spinach, tomato and balsamic-pesto hit the spot. A side of Cajun curly fries was quickly chowed down with a generous helping of barbecue sauce.
Always eager to end on a sweet note, we found space for a baked Toblerone chocolate cheesecake topped with sweet blueberry coulis, salted caramel almonds and chocolate shavings. Meanwhile, a moist sticky toffee pudding had a generous pouring of light caramel sauce and a single scoop of vanilla ice cream.
After dinner, we say why not hang out with a drink, play some darts, or catch a game on one of the screens. Cooper’s has recently launched its new ladies nights, with a special offer each day of the week, as well as a quiz night every Monday.
