Hollywood superstars will be screeching into the capital next month, as the Fast & Furious franchise will finally begin filming its seventh movie.

Production was due to be commence on the next instalment of the long-running film series last year but following the tragic death of lead actor Paul Walker, ironically in a car accident, in Los Angeles last November, filming was cancelled, leaving UAE fans devastated.

But rumours were sparked towards the end of last year that filming had already started, as closed roads across the capital played host to a selection of speeding supercars, police escorts and filming equipment.

But now, after that ‘secret’ filming session, Abu Dhabi Film Commission (ADFC) and Universal Pictures have officially revealed that the high-octane feature film is indeed set to put pedal-to-the-metal in the city, and will be using some of Abu Dhabi’s most iconic landmarks in the next turbo-charged action-thriller.

Serving as the UAE producer of the film, twofour54 will welcome the likes of actor and director Vin Diesel and fellow acting petrolheads Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges. Chief executive of twofour54 Noura Al Kaabi said that the filming of the movie in the city will leave a lasting impression on the capital.

“We look forward to welcoming the stars and crew of Fast & Furious 7 in April,” said Al Kaabi. “This is a great opportunity to not only generate international exposure for Abu Dhabi, but to also provide young Emiratis with work experience, which could help them to become the region’s future filmmakers.”
Fast & Furious 7 is scheduled for release in April 2015.
