Grand design for Malaysian project

One of the capital’s iconic landmarks is providing inspiration for a new religious building in Malaysia.

A new mosque complex, to be located in Bandar, Malaysia, will be designed with the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in mind and will include a tech-focused Islamic learning centre as well as a PERMATA centre, Malaysia’s programme for early childhood education.

The announcement of the project was made as the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mohammad Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak, met with HH General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, during his recent visit to the capital.

“This is an inspiring gift as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque promotes the concept of tolerance, love and mutual understanding towards positive interaction,” said Najib Razak.

“Indeed this is a testimony to the strong bond established between Malaysia and Abu Dhabi. It will go a long way to further cement the relationship between our peoples.”

The UAE’s General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Awqaf, will carry out the project in collaboration with Malaysia’s development fund, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

“This partnership underscores our mission to promote tolerance and awareness of the moderate teachings of Islam through the development of mosques and education centres,” said Dr Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Awqaf chairman. “It is our intention to collaborate with 1MDB to create a centre that serves the needs of the community.”
