Paranormal2

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (18+) – starring Andrew Jacobs, Molly Ephraim and Richard Cabral, directed by Christopher Landon

You can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Or so we thought. The popular horror franchise is back and is branching out with an entirely new spin-off. Building on the elaborate storyline of a sinister force haunting Kristi and Katie Featherstone (the characters from the original films), this edition sees a fresh face and new culture added into the mix.

The Latino spin-off will see cinema-goers witnessing the same tricks that made the first few films so popular, this time with a cultural twist. Set in Oxnard, California guests at a party make a gruesome discovery when they find out the woman in the apartment beneath them has died. Taking a camera with them to investigate, they head down to discover disturbing items associated with black magic rituals.

It’s not long afterwards that Jesse (Jacobs) discovers an inhuman bite mark on his arm and is “marked” and pursued by otherworldly entities. All while his desperate friends and family members race to save him. But will they be too late?

Despite the film’s new direction, the horror stays true to its roots when it comes to frights. Using bumpy handheld cameras for a decidedly low-tech feel, this flick will have plenty of thrills and jump scares to get your heart racing.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones hits the big screen on Thursday 2nd January.
