The UAE Pro League took a break this weekend as the first round of the Etisalat Cup kicked off around the country.
Al Ain lead the way in Group A as they defeated local rivals Al Wahda 2-0 away from home at the Al Nahyan stadium. Argentinean Jose Sand opened the scoring after a goalless first half before Bandar al Hababi secured the points in the first minute of injury time.
Bani Yas moved to second place in the group as they travelled to Al Nasr and eventually emerged with a 2-1 victory. Leading scorer Andre Senghor and Hassan Zahrain grabbed the goals for the away team.
Meanwhile in Group B, defending champions Al Jazira got their cup campaign off to a poor start as they suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat at the hands of Al Shabab, which leaves them rooted at the bottom of the table.
