John Carter

Men are from Mars

johncarter

Director: Andrew Stanton,
Starring: Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton, Dominic West

Disney’s adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ A Princess of Mars tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions between the inhabitants of the planet.

In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter finally rediscovers his humanity when he realises that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Oscar-winning director Andrew Stanton (Wall-E, Finding Nemo) makes the jump from Pixar animation to live action look ridiculously easy as this sci-fi spectacular finds just the right balance between vintage action fantasy and modern day blockbuster filmmaking – think Planet of the Apes, Flash Gordon and Avatar all rolled into one.

A fantastic cast also helps elevate this film above the average, with Taylor Kitsch leading the way as the charismatic Carter, ably supported by Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe.

Essentially a simple, exhilarating adventure about faith and loyalty, John Carter is also an excuse for some rollicking, rip-roaring action sequences and extraordinary special effects – out of this world!
