The Change-Up

Nothing ever changes

thechangeup

Director: David Dobkin,
Starring: Jason Bateman, Ryan Reynolds, Leslie Mann, Olivia Wilde

Mitch (Reynolds) and Dave (Bateman) were close growing up, but have found themselves drifting apart over the last few years.

Dave is a high-powered lawyer with a beautiful wife and three kids, while Mitch is terminally single with no responsibility. You can see where this is going already, can’t you?

After a night out together, both bemoaning their lot, they wake up to find – surprise! – they’ve switched bodies. Yes, it’s yet another identity-swap, life changing and affirming comedy. After a bit of fun with each other’s lives they both soon discover that the life they’d envied in each other isn’t all that great after all and maybe they shouldn’t whine so much.

Unfortunately for The Change-Up, unlike its great predecessors such as Vice-Versa and Freaky Friday (the 1976 version), it relies heavily on the gross-out humour that is so prevalent in “comedy” films these days. If The Hangover had you rolling in the aisles then this one will probably amuse you too. If not then this is just another one to avoid.
