Killer Elite

Mad mercenaries

killerelite

Director: Gary McKendry,
Starring: Jason Statham, Clive Owen, Robert De Niro

Love him or loathe him, Jason Statham delivers good action. And, despite the ridiculous name, Killer Elite doesn’t disappoint on that score.

Supposedly based on a true story (The Feather Men by Ranulph Fiennes), Killer Elite follows Danny Bryce (Statham) a former mercenary forced out of retirement so he can save his old mentor Hunter (De Niro) who has been kidnapped in order to force Bryce to carry out the kidnappers’ dastardly revenge plot. As he gathers his ex-fellow special ops agents together to help him in his task, Spike (Clive Owen), an enforcer of the secret watchdog society known as The Feather Men, does his very best to stop him as they cross the globe in a game of cat and mouse – where the predators become prey.

Frankly, this is just another glossy action flick. It has some great stunts, although the fight scenes are filmed a little close up for our liking and the plot twists can be difficult to follow as the cast jumps from place to place. It doesn’t really bring anything new to the table, but that doesn’t make it a bad film. As is so often the case, if you like the actors you’ll probably enjoy the movie.
