It’s the late 80s and Wall Street is riding high. Disgusted with the materialism that surrounds him, Matt Franklin (Grace), a brilliant young MIT graduate, has walked out on his well-paid position at a local lab and taken a low-level job as a video clerk, much to his father’s disgust.

But Matt’s silent protest against maturity comes to a screeching halt once his unrequited high school crush, Tori Frederking (Palmer), walks into the store. When she invites him to an epic, end-of-summer party, Matt thinks he finally might have a chance with the girl of his dreams.

Basically a smart and funny tribute to romantic comedies of the 1980’s, there’s nothing really new or original here, but that doesn’t take away from the overall likability of the movie.

Grace is in top form as the dryly witty underachiever. In fact, every character has a bit of depth and a degree of intelligence beyond what we see in many comedies.

Add in a great soundtrack of classic 80’s hits and we’re onto a winner.

If you’re looking for some laughs and teen comedies are your thing, Take Me Home Tonight fits the bill quite nicely.
