The Social Network

Director: David Fincher
Starring: Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Max Minghella, Justin Timberlake

The year is 2003. Computers are becoming affordable for the masses and the Internet is making it easy to stay in touch with people who are halfway across the world. And Harvard undergrad and computer programming wiz Mark Zuckerberg (Eisenberg) launches a website called Facebook, which has the potential to alter the very fabric of society.

Zuckerberg is just six years away from making his first million; but despite all the wealth and success, his personal life begins to suffer as he becomes mired in legal disputes, and discovers that many of the 500 million people he has “friended” during his rise to the top are eager to see him fall.

Based on the book The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich, the story of a bunch of nerds setting up a website and then falling out over it doesn’t immediately sound a particularly enticing prospect. But with visuals by David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club and Zodiac) and a razor-sharp script from West Wing wit Aaron Sorkin, The Social Network definitely lives up to its billing as one of the films of the year.
