The Town – Dir Ben Affleck, starring Ben Affleck, Rebecca Hall, Blake Lively, Jon Hamm
Doug MacRay (Affleck) is the uncompromising leader of a group of ruthless bank robbers who pride themselves on stealing what they want and getting out clean. With no real attachments, Doug never has to fear losing anyone close to him. But that all changed on the gang’s latest job, when they took Claire, a bank manager, hostage (Hall).

Although they let her go unharmed, Claire is nervously aware that the robbers know her name and where she lives. A few days later she meets a charming man named Doug – not realising that he is the same man who only days earlier had terrorised her. The instant attraction between them gradually turns into a passionate romance that threatens to take them both down a dangerous, and potentially deadly, path.

Based on the best-selling novel Prince of Thieves and in his second directorial role, Affleck has produced a sharp, funny and action-packed crime noire. He manages to balance all the elements perfectly – from his bank robbers’ caper and his character study of the hardscrabble protagonists through to the edge-of-your-seat action sequences.

The Town is intelligent, darkly funny, full of harrowing, high-impact thrills and further cements Affleck’s reinvention as a budding filmmaker. One not to miss.
