NYPD Detectives Danson (Johnson) and Highsmith (Jackson) are the baddest, toughest and most famous cops on the force – they have the best capture rate and get all the plumb assignments. Two desks over and one back, sit wannabe supercops Gamble (Ferrell) and Hoitz (Wahlberg) – the ‘other guys’ – just waiting for their chance to make a big collar and grab some of the limelight.

When the unlikely duo stumble into a seemingly innocuous case no other detective wants to touch, little do they know that it’s going to turn into the biggest crime New York’s seen in decades. It’s just the opportunity they’ve been waiting for, but do they have what it takes to get the job done?

The Other Guys is an all-action cop movie parody – think Lethal Weapon crossed with Naked Gun and you’re not far off – with Ferrell returning to his hilarious best playing the well-meaning but clueless yin to Wahlberg’s near-sociopathic yang. Laughs rightly take precedence over plot development, or even logic, and the film is absolutely packed with sparkling, abrasive and often surreal dialogue that will have your sides aching.
