The Crazies

Mad to miss it

Director: Breck Eisner
Starring: Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Joe Anderson

Ogden Marsh, a quiet town in Pierce County, Iowa, runs on the slogan ‘The friendliest place on earth’. That is, until their water supply is accidently infected with a menacing virus.

As the Trixi virus begins infecting the towns’ inhabitants, things get decidedly less friendly as the strange and disturbing side effects cause those infected to savagely attack friends, family and neighbours – and anyone else who comes into sight.

Sheriff David Dutten (Olyphant) has to work fast to save his wife and as many of those around him as possible before the bloody-thirsty infected wipe out the town. It’s a race against time but with the disease spreading so fast, just who can you trust?

A surprisingly sharp remake of the 1973 horror film of the same name, The Crazies carries a simple plot with just the right balance of gore and simple commentary to keep you engrossed from start to finish. It doesn’t win any prizes for originality, but it faithfully pulls of all the key characteristics of a good horror movie.
