Knight and Day

Mission Improbable

tomcrz

Director: James Mangold
Starring: Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Peter Sarsgaard, Viola Davis

Lonely classic car-restorer June Havens (Diaz) is on her way home to her sister’s wedding when she bumps into the dashing Roy Miller (Cruise) at the airport. Little does she know that Miller, hounded by government agents, is a super-spy who has just realised he isn’t supposed to survive his latest mission.

Amid shifting alliances and unexpected betrayals, their campaign to stay alive stretches around the globe and they soon learn that all they can rely on is each other.

In true action-comedy tradition, the storyline is a little far-fetched and disjointed. But who needs things like narrative cohesion and logic when you’ve got Cruise and Diaz back to their charismatic best?

The film treads a fine line between comedy and action, the film’s high-velocity exploits work well and its dry comedy at the edge of disaster never quite veers into absurdity. It’s simply content to let us enjoy the magnetic leads, crackerjack action and beautiful scenery until we’re bludgeoned into submission.

Knight and Day really is top popcorn fodder – just don’t forget to leave your brain at home.

Genre: Action | Comedy | Thriller
Age Restriction: Rated PG-13 for sequences of action violence throughout, and brief strong language
