The Collector – Dir Marcus Dunstan, starring Josh Stewart, Karley Scott Collins, Michael Reilly Burke, Juan Fernández
Other movie genres may be stumbling around the CGI swamps, but we’re in a good run of horror movies; and The Collector is among the best of the current crop.
It’s the plot of ‘Home Alone’ – housebreaker falls victim to a series of elaborate booby traps – but with a mute masked killer, many more knives and blood by the gallon. In order to repay a debt to his ex-wife, an ex-con (Josh Stewart) goes to rob his new employer's country home; but a second criminal has also targeted the property, and it has been rigged with a series of deadly traps. An intricate cat-and-mouse game follows, with lots of surprises and buckets of blood around every corner. There’s a good twist-in-the-tale ending, too.
You probably need to be a horror fan to appreciate all of the film’s attractions; but if you’re into blood, guts, and rock ‘n’ roll, The Collector is a must-see movie – and it’s good enough to attract the less committed too.
