Canon has added HD-quality video to its latest digital IXUS cameras, always a personal favourite and regular winner of ‘best buy’ nominations. In the pic is the top-end Digital IXUS 990 IS with its 12.1 megapixels, a good 5x zoom, Smart Auto mode, image stabilisation, and some new goodies like ‘Creative Light Effect’ and ‘Zoom Blur’. And you can switch to Movie mode and take ultra-detailed HD video clips – but 30fps recording in QuickTime format soaks up memory, so you won’t get much top-notch footage unless you buy extra memory cards. But anyway it’s small, looks good, is easy to use, and produces excellent pics. Expect to see it here for around AED 1,500.
