City skyline gets bright new landmark

Hyatt Capital Gate, Etihad Towers and the World Trade Centre may dominate the capital’s skyline, but there’s a new landmark in town that threatens to stand out amongst the rest for its unique and bold design.

Al Nadi Tower was commissioned as the ‘legacy element’ of The Club, Abu Dhabi’s 50th Anniversary activities in 2012. The significant project marked The Club’s commitment to the national values of the UAE while offering a lasting contribution to the government’s cultural vision established under the Urban Structure Framework Plan: Abu Dhabi 2030.

The 13-metre lighthouse-cum-viewing platform was officially inaugurated last week by HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, minister of culture, youth and social development and HE Dominic Jermey CVO OBE British Ambassador to the UAE.

Designed by esteemed Swiss architect Andre Meyerhans – who is the creative talent responsible for Ibn Battuta Gate and the Abu Dhabi bus stations – the organic structure takes inspiration from contemporary Arabic architecture and the traditional patterns that are customary in the local culture.

The tower is significantly placed at the entrance to Saadiyat Island, facing the commercial hub of Al Maryah and residential island Al Reem, and offers an additionally spectacular piece to Abu Dhabi’s architectural skyline.
