The flying patrol will survey the city’s roads, looking out for drivers doing dangerous stunts and driving recklessly.

The initiative, launched in cooperation with the Air Wing Section, comes in line with Abu Dhabi Police’s traffic safety strategy aimed at making the capital’s roads safer.

The air patrols and traffic civil investigation patrols on the emirate’s roads will work together to enforce the law by arresting offenders, confiscating vehicles or motorcycles if necessary, and reporting irresponsible behaviour to the authorities for legal action.

The project also aims to help the directorate determine areas of traffic congestion on Abu Dhabi’s internal and external roads, and dispatch traffic patrols to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic in the designated locations.

Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, said that the Air Wing Section surveillance aircrafts have already begun policing Abu Dhabi, monitoring traffic on its roads and photographing offenders.

Al Harthi pointed out that the aircrew will also be on the lookout for vehicles without number plates or those using fake number plates, and will refer law breakers to traffic authorities.

The traffic surveillance aircrafts will carry out day and night surveillance and are equipped with hi-tech thermal cameras that provide efficient and accurate imaging regardless of weather conditions.
