Residents in the capital are urged to step up when it comes to their health

The cooler weather sees the city come alive with activity, with residents removing themselves from their air-conditioned homes to rediscover the joys of being outdoors. And one new event, keen to capitalise on the return to activity, gets set to launch later this month.

Abu Dhabi Alive, the new health and wellbeing show in the UAE, will take place at the Zayed Sports City from 27th to 30th November. The city’s latest inaugural fitness and lifestyle event is aimed at encouraging guests to test out new sports and activities, all while learning how to change their lifestyle habits for a healthier future.

“This fun-filled, family friendly event is the perfect opportunity for anyone from any walk of life to kick-start a new, healthy way of living. It is a chance to change lifestyle habits by learning about what is necessary for general wellbeing and improved fitness levels,” said Hayete Jemai, exhibition director at Informa Exhibitions.

“We are keen to be at Abu Dhabi Alive to spread the word to even more people who want to make positive changes in their daily lives,” adds Dr Sven Rohte, chief commercial officer at Daman. “We will be at the show to discuss a range of health-related topics, particularly about how to make the first step towards a state of wellbeing. The greater awareness we can generate the better!”

So what exactly will be on offer? A little bit of everything, to be honest. There will be a variety of activities and health related games including free body composition assessments, cooking demonstrations, timed fitness tests and fantastic prizes and giveaways.

Food for thought

Proving that good health starts from the inside out, you can get the whole family involved when checking out the special cooking demonstrations on offer. The dedicated area will host nutrition experts to provide healthy and nourishing recipes so that you can take what you learn home. Check out the demos from 4pm to 5pm on the main stage.

Doctor’s Orders

The event will also be offering a variety of free advice from expert health and fitness professionals, medical checks, eye screenings and body composition assessments to help guests understand their current health levels.

Sample some sport

One of the key principles of the show is to get guests moving, and with the amount of sport on offer, there will be something for everyone. Hosted at Zayed Sports City, check out the fantastic facilities available.

What’s cooking?

Abu Dhabi Week speaks with Rita Nabhan, divison manager of Slim’n Lite Health & Diet Food Center, to find out more.

Tell us more about your company.

Our company is a healthy food catering company that features dietetic consultations and programmes targeting individuals looking to lose weight, gain weight, control a medical condition or just adopt a healthy diet. We offer customised programmes ranging from full meals to lunch boxes or even diet plans. Our ultimate aim is to educate the public on healthy eating and living principles.

Why did you decide to participate in Abu Dhabi Alive?

We want to make an active contribution in the awareness campaign targeting obesity and
its related chronic diseases, and we see this event as an important portal for reaching wide sectors of the society within a fun and informative atmosphere.

What will you be offering at the event?  What can guests look forward to?

Individuals visiting our booth will receive an introduction to our services along with free BMI assessments and nutritional advice.

Slim’n Lite will also be holding a daily healthy cooking event that features our two executive chefs preparing healthy meals for a full day in just under an hour. All while our dietitians will be teaching people the benefits of the food ingredients used and explain how everyone’s favourite foods can be done in a tasty, yet health way.

At the end of the daily cooking show, a raffle draw will be held for a chance to win a free dietetic consultation session with a full body composition analysis and five days’ regular lunch box delivered to the winners’ location of choice.

Why is it so important to take charge of your health?

Our health is the single most important element in our life as it affects our livelihood. Research has shown over the years that genetics, food habits, fitness levels and exercise are the main components that can improve or deteriorate our health. We are not able to control our genetics, but we definitely can take control of our eating and exercise habits and delay or prevent the onset of diseases that we may or may not be predisposed to!

Any last comments you’d like to add?

It is important to know that individuals should not focus on dieting as much as having a healthy lifestyle. It’s all about the choices one makes most days to eat a variety of foods, avoid fatty fried foods, and eat in moderation. And the same applies for exercise to keep you fit, healthy and happy for a lifetime.
