Looking to capitalise on local ingredients and Arabic flavours, Abu Dhabi Week spoke with Ismaeil Al Blooki, owner and founder of the recently launched Camel Cookies, to discover just how the cookie crumbles.

Tell us more about your camel milk cookies. Where did you get the idea?

We studied the market and noticed Arabic ingredients and Arabic flavours are becoming popular.

We thought about bringing something that is localised and came up with the idea to make cookies, as there were no cookies in the market that use camel milk.

Where is your company based?

Currently we have an operational kitchen in Khalidiya and do deliveries. We can produce up to 240 boxes of cookies a day and are now working on creating stands so that we can expand into malls.

What flavours of cookies do you offer?

We have six types of cookies. The signature one is the Arabic coffee with Nutella. We also have peanut butter, double chocolate and cookies with Hershey’s, Galaxy and Kinder chocolates. In the future I hope to bring in some new items using camel powder milk such as chocolate sauce.

Why are camels so important to Emirati culture?

Before the oil or the development, we started with camels. The camel was the thing that we travelled with, lived with, and supported us by producing milk and meat.

Why did you decide to use camel milk in your cookies?

Camel milk is very good and full of vitamins. If you want to change the flavour of camel milk you can give the camel dates and saffron with their food. Or if you want to make it even nicer, you can warm it up on the fire. Or drink it with the foam for more protein. It is very interesting.

Any last comments you’d like to add?

I hope people love what we are doing. We are an Emirati company and are trying to bring our tradition and culture with our cookies.
