Five best tailors
(3 votes, average 4.00 out of 5)

Love what your best friend is wearing but can’t find it in the shop or in your size? Favourite shirt wearing thin? Can’t find a replacement for those trousers with the best-ever fit? Never fear—Abu Dhabi is the place for personal tailoring. Check out one of these savvy tailors who can copy to perfection or create a vision of your own design.

1: Joury Tailoring Nestled in Khalidiya behind Baby Center on 7th/Electra Street, these talented tailors can alter readymade clothes to perfection and reproduce garments so well you can’t tell the original from the copy. Bring in a photo or choose one of their many patterns. Mainly for ladies.

2: Belle Veste Where 3rd/Khalifa Street dead-ends near Al Noor Hospital, you’ll find an excellent ladies tailoring shop. While some of its copies are simply divine, and the proprietor has been known to bring mere sketches to life, the quality of the work and the price you pay depends on which of the tailors does the work—some of it is great, some mediocre.

3: Orchid Tailor and Textiles This gifted tailor is so good it’s almost not worth mentioning him here because he’s always swamped with work—his name is Mr Santa for a reason. You’ll find the shop down the side street opposite Cairo Fabrics on 3rd/Khalifa Street. Good for both men’s and women’s clothing.

4: Fridays Feel like an aristocrat in your own tailor-made suit. Just for men, this shop opposite Ahalia Hospital on 5th/Hamdan Street is a great place to have a suit made to order. Also good for alterations and repairs.

5: Kent Tailoring and Textiles Shop Though it may seem like all men’s dress shirts are created equal, those tiny variations can make the difference between a much loved shirt and one that never gets worn. Take those worn out favourites to this place behind Al Noor Hospital on 3rd/Khalifa Street and get as many flawless copies as you need.

Article Update

We had some feedback from Zuhair regarding this article. Here is some more specific information about how to find each one...

* Joury is in Khalidiya in the city block behind the Al Muhairi Centre. It's just opposite a mosque, and you'll see a shop called No Name Abayas nearby.

* Belle Veste, Orchid, and Kent Tailoring are all very near Cairo Fabrics, which is on 3rd/Khalifa Street opposite (and a bit down from) Al Noor Hospital. If you go to Cairo, they should be able to direct you, and you should be in walking distance of both from there (so you'll only need one parking space!) smilies/smiley.gif

* Fridays is on 5th/Hamdan Street just opposite the Ahalia Hospital. You should be able to see it from the hospital.

I'm sorry the phone numbers weren't very useful. In my experience, it's best to go in person to show them what you want and they can tell you if you need to buy fabric or whatever.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Best Tailoring Shop
written by rwilson, November 19, 2009
I consider Bella Veste as number one ladies tailoring shop. They specialize in Haute Couture, Evening Gowns, Wedding Dresses, Blouse, Abaya, Shela, Jackets, etc. It is comparatively small place, but their service is good. Their contact is 02-6223737. Their location is next to Safeer Travels, opposite Eclipse Hotel Apartments on Liwa Street in Abu Dhabi.
