Formula One fans have more to look forward to next year, as Abu Dhabi will replace Brazil to become the season-end showdown race.

The announcement came as the F1 governing body Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) revised the calendar for the 2014 world championship.

In addition to the rescheduled finale to the competition, the FIA also announced the Abu Dhabi race will offer double the normal points for both drivers and constructors for 2014, “in order to maximise focus on the championship until the end of the campaign”.

The season will begin in Australia on 16th March and conclude in Abu Dhabi on 23rd November. Two new races in Austria and Russia have been added to the 2014 calendar while three tentative races in New Jersey, Korea and Mexico have been postponed until 2015.

Inaugurated in 2009, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has become a highly anticipated event on the F1 calendar. The 5.55 kilometre track adds excitement with its anti-clockwise direction and a tunnel exit from the pit lane.

Staged at the purpose-built Yas Marina Circuit, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is currently the only day-to-night race on the calendar. Last year’s grand prix saw Red Bull drivers
Sebastian Vettel, from Germany, and Australian Mark Webber lead the pack with 25 and 18 points, respectively.
