Le Beaujolais

Old but gold, as they say… Le Beaujolais is a delightful French bistro that offers an excellent steak in one of the city’s older hotels. Don’t be dismayed by the slightly dated interior –this adds to the charm.

What we really love though is that there are two steaks at two weights: they keep it simple making sure each steak is cooked to perfection. And in comparison to other steaks across the city, the more expensive of the two, the angus filet de boeuf sauce au choix is great value for money at AED 172. Add a sauce – pepper, mushroom or vin rouge – and you’re set.

Steaks from AED 79. Mercure Abu Dhabi Centre Hotel, Hamdan Street. Daily noon-midnight. Contact: 02 633 3555, mercure.com

The Meat Co.

Yes, it’s expensive and yes, everyone knows about it so we’re not revealing anything new here. But the team at The Meat Co. knows their stuff so it’s only right to feature them.

The super-aged meats – the restaurant’s specialities –  come from the US, Australia, Argentina and New Zealand. You’ve got the fancy fillets right up to a 700g T-Bone cut.

Those with cash to splash can try the connoisseur’s choice cuts. Marble score 7+ and 9+ cuts start around AED 450. Better yet, go for the Japanese Miyazaki 250g sirloin for AED 850…

Steaks from AED 165. Souk Qaryat Al Beri, between the bridges. Sat-Wed noon-11.45pm, Thu-Fri noon-12.30am. Contact: 02 558 1713, themeatco.com/al-beri

Rodeo Grill

Another beautiful restaurant, Rodeo Grill matches its sleek interior with equally impressive steaks, as well as knowledgeable staff.

Meat masters come to your table with a tray of discreetly clothed steak showing you how the cut ends differ: an education in meat marbling, if you will.

Executive chef Adam Ashe has been at the grill for almost two years now and is cooking your meal on a Josper – an oven-cum-grill that seals and locks in all the juice.

The 250g Wagyu ribeye and a 200g Angus tenderloin are both tender and the potato gratin is the perfect partner for either.

Steaks from AED 200. Beach Rotana, next to Abu Dhabi Mall, Al Zahiyah. Daily 12.30pm-3.30pm and 7pm-11.30pm. Contact: 02 697 9000, rotana.com

The Capital Grill

Tucked in the corner of Dusit Thani, this spacious restaurant with smouldering décor is the perfect spot for a juicy steak.

Like the restaurant, the menu is expansive, with plenty of starters, sharing dishes and of course, some great cuts. Serving five types of 200g tenderloins, two 250g rib eyes and two 250g striploin options, this is a concise steak menu, filled with a spectrum of international cuts to get you salivating. It all depends what takes your fancy: prime US, Australian, French Normandy or even the stunning Livingston by Blackmore’s Wagyu at AED 335.

We love the amount of sides and sauces available. You get to choose two sides and a sauce as part of the price. We recommend the garlic mash and Béarnaise sauce.

Steaks from AED 125. Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi, Sultan Bin Zayed the First Street (Muroor Road). Daily 12.30pm-3pm and 7pm-11pm. Contact: 02 698 8888

BOA Steakhouse

The turf – as it’s referred to at this trendy LA-inspired spot – ranges in price, but the quality is impeccable. The Australian master kobe beef striploin is a must try, even at AED 425. If you are watching the dirhams, we recommend the 225g US black angus tenderloin at AED 220 – you can add some surf too.

What really got us salivating was the rubs and crusts option: peppercorn, blue cheese or herbed butter.

There are eight sauces to pick from too, with the signature J-1 sauce being a favourite of ours. Steaks from AED 220. Eastern Mangroves Promenade. Sun-Tue 12.30pm-1am, Wed-Fri 12.30pm-2am. Contact:
