American Sniper (TBC) – starring Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller and Kyle Gallner, directed by Clint Eastwood
Clint Eastwood has done it again. The movie veteran has taken another true story and portrayed it in an honest and visceral light.
American Sniper tells the story of wannabe cowboy turned Navy SEAL Chris Kyle (Cooper) and his heroic efforts during a tour in Iraq. This movie, just like Eastwood’s famed cowboy character Harry, is dirty.
Racking up a record kill count of Taliban militants, Kyle is honourably discharged from the US Navy and returns home to face his toughest battle yet. The reality of war sets in and family life and urban living turn the Texan hero into a quivering wreck.
American Sniper is already causing a stir ahead of the Academy Awards this February, with Cooper and Eastwood up for some big awards including lead actor, best director and best film, respectively.
Cooper has no doubt shaken off his Hangover ties – even more so after Silver Linings Playbook – and his raw and gritty performance will have audiences feeling nothing but compassion for his character.
American Sniper sneaks into cinemas Thursday 22nd January.
