Located in the heart of the city, Abu Dhabi City Golf Club gets pulses racing on Sunday nights at its popular BBQ Race Night. We made our way along to the club to find out why this start-of-the-week treat has residents galloping down to get a seat.
A real hubbub of people makes an inviting atmosphere; families, couples, young professionals and more are all welcome. Seated on the outside terrace area known as the Pavilion, we hop down the few steps to start our dinner. A healthy portion of salad, fresh hummus, warm bread and coleslaw is our first furlong of food. We follow the race on the nearby screen before a flurry of horses flashes past, entering the next bend.
Now that our tummies were ready for some meat, the BBQ smoke beckons us towards its station and with plate in hand, we load up: Peppered steaks, lamb chops drizzled in mint sauce and Asian spice-infused chicken adorn our dish, only leaving enough room for a golden corn-on-the-cob and a fluffy jacket potato. Succulent, juicy and well-cooked meat was polished off with ease.
And after a second run at the BBQ, we had just enough room to satisfy our sweet tooth. Another trampling of hoofs pound past with the colour of the jockey’s jackets matching those of the dessert table. Zesty pinks, golden yellows and silky browns take over the table, as we pick up the strawberry mousse, a mini pavlova and a fruit salad – just so we can say we appeased our five-a-day.
The BBQ Race Night is the perfect excuse to enjoy time with friends and family and even hedge a guess on which horse will win. Children under six eat for free and those aged between six and 12-years-old receive a 50 per cent discount.
