Remember, Remember Your Tache This Movember

Men of Abu Dhabi, I moustache you a question: Could you be doing more to raise awareness of preventable male illnesses?

You may notice a few more moustached males around the capital this month than usual. Is the tache coming back in to fashion? Is there a city-wide shortage of razors? No, it’s all in the name of charity.

Movember, or November as it’s sometimes known, is a month when the health and wellbeing of males comes in to focus and men willingly grow crumb-catchers to raise awareness about some of the most common causes of death among men.

As well as bringing back an iconic facial hair style for a full calendar month, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths in men.

Prostate cancer is one of the main targets for the campaign but a number of other illnesses, such as depression, are also being targeted with the hope that men will start to talk more about their health and be aware of the dangers of putting off that trip to the doctors.

Men aren’t always the best at regularly visiting their GP and getting check-ups but the early detection of a number of male diseases, such as prostate cancer, can significantly increase your chances of survival and making a full recovery. So it makes sense not to take your health for granted.

So men of the capital, we hope you are growing your soup-strainer, your moz, your whiskers and your lip luggage; it’s time to do something funny for money, save lives and raise funds for a worthy cause.
