Residents and guests visiting Abu Dhabi will soon be able to ‘hop on, hop off’ public buses with the launch of a new automated fare collection system.
The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi announced the initiative, which is called ‘Hafilat,’ and translates to buses in Arabic, earlier this week.
To be launched next year, the new system will see commuters in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain simply purchasing a top up card to pay their fares when on the bus.
“The launch of ‘Hafilat,’ the automated fare collection system, is in line with the DoT’s strategy to provide easy, convenient and flexible solutions for commuters to reload their cards and pay for trips, thereby avoiding long queues to enter and exit the bus,” said Khaled Mohamed Hashem, executive director of the Land Secotor, DoT.
