Theater Mitu, a New York City theatre company currently in residence in Abu Dhabi, is staging a rebooted version of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
The original version of the tragedy tells the story of a Danish prince who is eager to vindicate his father’s death. Theater Mitu’s ‘Hamlet/UR-Hamlet’ combines this story with earlier versions that date back to Scandinavian folkloric tradition.
The production – which features modern songs and art – is billed as part theatre, part art installation, part rock concert. Audience members will walk around the performance space, which has no stage or seats, and decide their own path between different scenes, which are performed in a loop throughout the event.
