Sport for all

sportforallSports enthusiasts in Abu Dhabi are set to receive a boost with the launch of leagues for serious and semi-serious sports action in the capital.
Sports ranging from indoor football, beach volleyball, and American football to frisbee and dodgeball will be catered for with the launch of the DUPLAYS leagues in Abu Dhabi.
The DUPLAYS organisation – the name means “Do U PLAY Sports” – has been running in Dubai for over 18 months, where it has promoted more than two dozen different adult evening sport leagues.  Now, a new chapter is to be unveiled in the capital.
The main aim is to organise sporting and social evenings for adults as an alternative to the more traditional use of bars and clubs.
“We currently have a number of people who actually drive from Abu Dhabi to play in some of our leagues, such as beach volleyball,” explains club founder Ravi Bhusari.
“Based on a number of people asking when we are moving to Abu Dhabi to launch similar leagues, we are happy to report that beginning in May we will be organising evening leagues for Abu Dhabi residents.”
Initially most of the leagues will be played at the Zayed Sports Stadium, but organisers are already approaching additional venues including schools and clubs throughout the capital.
According to Ravi the main benefit of the club is that it’s free to register on the website, and that the leagues have a significant social aspect – “a chance to meet other active, like-minded individuals who live in Abu Dhabi,” as Ravi says.
