Beastly

Beastly boring

Based on Alex Flinn’s novel of the same name, this is a tween-friendly modern take on Beauty and the Beast – Dawson’s Freak if you will.

Rich brat Kyle is handsome on the outside, ugly on the inside – until he makes the mistake of humiliating his goth classmate Kendra, whose interest in witchcraft is more than just a highschool pose, and suddenly his attributes are literally reversed.

Transformed into a hideous monster (well, a bald guy with a few facial scars and tattoos), Kyle is forced to focus on his inner beauty until he finds true love and Kendra’s nefarious spell is reversed.

If we were being cynical, we’d say this flick is looking to cash in on the success of Twilight, unfortunately it’s just nowhere near as good.

Charisma-free performances from the entire cast set the (very low) tone, while the cheesy and contrived script does absolutely nothing to help matters.

Actually, thinking about it, Beastly is quite a fitting title.
