RED

Retired, but Extremely Dangerous

RED

Director: Robert Schwentke,
Starring: Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich

Frank Moses (Willis) used to be a hired gun for the CIA. Along with Joe (Freeman), Marvin (Malkovich), and Victoria (Mirren), Frank’s specialty was carrying out contracts that the government didn’t want the public to know about. These days, Frank and his old gang are all retired, but the powers that be are still concerned that they know too much, and dispatch a team of top assassins to ensure their silence. Now, Frank has to reassemble his old RED team (Retired but Extremely Dangerous) in a last ditch effort to survive.

Based on the cult DC Comics graphic novels by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner, RED is an explosive action-comedy with an all-star cast – think The Expendables with a touch more humour thrown in.

This movie won’t win any Oscars, but it is fast-paced, well written, quirky and entertaining with absolutely stunning action sequences and sleek direction. RED’s got a lot going for it. In particular, the cast are terrific – these are pros at work here, and they not only show up the new action-star punks but also prove they’re far from expendable.
