British Ambassador and team run in aid of charity |
British Embassy staff, their families and friends ran a mile for ‘Sports Relief’ in aid of the Pink Ladies and The Future Centre, as one of the largest charity events in the UK came to the UAE today. The initiative was part of a weekend of sporting activity which took place in the UK on the 19th-21st March and it involved British embassies from around the world, including the embassy here in Abu Dhabi . Sport Relief is organised by the British charity, Comic Relief, which since 1985 has raised over half a billion pounds to help vulnerable people in the world’s poorest countries. Taking place at the Emirates Palace, the light hearted event saw British Ambassador, Edward Oakden, lead the pack over the well manicured lawns. Money raised locally will go directly to The Future Centre for Special Needs, a non-profit organization in Abu Dhabi, that provides special education and rehabilitation for individuals with disabilities. The Pink Ladies promote awareness and raise funds for Breast Cancer Care.
