THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY

The Hundred-Foot Journey (PG15) – Starring Helen Mirren, Om Puri, Manish Dayal and Charlotte Le Bon, directed by Lasse Hallström

The latest film to hit the big screen this summer is sure to serve up a dose of heart-warming comfort food. Based on Richard C. Morais’ novel, the plot follows the Kadam family as they struggle to settle abroad. The Indian family, who leave Mumbai after a spate of horrific violence, find themselves in a quaint French village.

Looking to start up an Indian restaurant, the Kadams renovate a space that is directly opposite a Michelin-starred restaurant run by the fussy Madame Mallory (Mirren). Cue the fireworks and cultural misunderstandings.

Director Hallström (who also directed the foodie flick Chocolat) understands that food takes centre stage in this comedic drama – with long shots panning over delicious dishes, just the way we like. The casting is spot on, with Mirren and Bollywood legend, Om Puri, playing off one another, perfectly.

The takeaway? While the storyline is incredibly predictable, this film delivers a dash of both sugar and spice. For those looking for a feel-good film with plenty of mouth-watering meals on show, this is the one to see.

The Hundred-Foot Journey sizzles on to the big screen this Thursday, 28th August.
