The Abu Dhabi-based National Symphony Orchestra will join award-winning composer George Fenton to raise the curtain on the Volvo Ocean Race stopover celebrations.

The 75-piece orchestra will perform Fenton’s emotional score for the multi award-winning The Blue Planet TV series, with the composer himself conducting.

The highly anticipated event – Blue Planet in Concert Live – will be performed on 12th and 13th December as part of the Abu Dhabi stopover of the 2014/2015 Volvo Ocean Race.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us and one which we are all excited about,” said Janet Hassouneh, Founder and Executive Director of the NSO.

“Both the Volvo Ocean Race and Fenton are at the pinnacle of their world renowned areas of expertise, so it’s nothing short of an honour to have their confidence in our ability.”

Founded in 2011, the NSO currently features 100 professional musicians who promote various genres of music around the UAE.

“Make no mistake, each and every member of the orchestra will give their very best and the audience will not be disappointed!” said Janet Hassouneh.

The performers will join Fenton for the concert on a remarkable floating stage at the Corniche Breakwater. It will also have a screen that will show specially cut footage from The Blue Planet itself, a documentary series that explores the natural history of the world’s oceans.

Talking ahead of his first ever performance in the region, five-time Oscar nominee Fenton highlighted the drama of the event: “The prospect of playing for the first time in Arabia, with the local NSO, on a floating stage, beneath a 10 metre screen, promises to be the show’s most spectacular setting yet”.

Tickets for Blue Planet in Concert Live at the Abu Dhabi VOR stopover are available from AED 300 and up.
