Universal Contour Wrap

Looking to help tighten and tone our body without hitting the gym we head over to the Anantara Spa at the Eastern Mangroves for the Universal Contour Wrap treatment. Promised an instant loss of a whopping 15cm in one treatment, we don’t have anything to lose – except a dress size.

After getting detailed measurements, we begin the procedure. Doing our best imitation of a mummy, we get wrapped up with rolls of bandages soaked in special mineral clay. Our therapist Rufina asks us what we’d most like to focus on (it’s our pesky stomach) and spends extra time wrapping us up tightly around the abdomen.

The session is meant to tighten fatty tissues and detoxify the body. Using a mixture of seaweed, salt and essential minerals, the concoction is also said to reduce the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks.

Next up is a reflective pantsuit to enhance the detoxification process. Suited and booted, we are
left to relax for 45 minutes. Rufina gives us a soothing head massage complete with a cooling gel to keep
us comfortable.

Once unwrapped, we are measured again. We see a couple of centimetres shrinkage here and there until we reach our abdomen and find a two-inch loss, resulting in a total loss of nearly 17cm. Given a list of after-care instructions to maintain the results, we’re out the door, feeling leaner and lighter. AED 900++ for the two-hour treatment.

The Slenderiser

For a bit of relaxation and reduction we head to The Nail Spa at the Eastern Mangroves Promenade to test out this special massage. Billed as a cleansing lymphatic drainage massage, the treatment is meant to eliminate toxins from the body while also reducing the appearance of cellulite. Sounds like a win-win to us.

Guests are given the option of one of three special Heaven treatment oils. The ‘Fix It’ selection aims at reducing fluid retention and eliminating toxins while the ‘Shape It’ oil targets post-weight loss skin, and aims to reduce stretch marks. We opt for the ‘Mould It’ oil, which is meant to tone, improve elasticity and help break down some of our dreaded cellulite.

Once we are nestled into the heated treatment table, our therapist Gren begins the massage. The treatment doesn’t stray too much from a typical aromatherapy massage, just with more pressure. Using a firm grip, Gren has us lay on our sides as well, to attack our upper arms and ensure every nook and cranny is smothered in oil.

With cedarwood, juniper and eucalyptus extracts the oil smells rather heavenly, even if we don’t see any immediate or noticeable results.

Gren explains visitors see a difference after twice a week sessions, for at least four weeks. So for guests looking for an immediate treatment, this is not the option to take. However, if you prefer a firm touch when massaged, why not try this? AED 310 for 70 minutes.

VelaShape II

If you’re serious about your slimming, it’s worth turning to the very latest cellulite treatment.

Promising results in as little as four treatments, the non-invasive VelaShape II device tackles cellulite and tones problem areas by combining infrared light, bipolar radio frequency and a vacuum mechanism.

Our treatment at Silkor starts with a consultation. After shyly pointing out our thighs and ‘love handles’, the therapists tells us these are the normal problem areas for most women, along with the upper arms and stomach.

Moving into the treatment room, we robe up and settle onto the bed. The therapist shows us the handheld vacuum-like device with two rows of balls running underneath.

She gives us a quick run down of what to expect – a little discomfort – before spreading lotion across a section of our thigh.

The therapist slides the vacuum up and down the first section. The balls massage and suck as the device heats up the area. Initially, we admit to finding it a bit painful but we quickly become accustomed to it.

As the therapist works her way across our thighs, stomach and hips, she explains that the heat from the radiofrequency and light energies target fat cells that are deep under the skin, causing them to ‘unlink’ and shrink.

Next, we are treated to a session of Pressotherapy to reduce water tension. Two giant compression boots encase our legs from feet to thighs and another is wrapped around our torso. A machine gently inflates and deflates the chambers, giving a massage-like therapy. The 15-minute treatment is recommended for use in conjunction with the VelaShape treatment.

VelaShape II is available at Silkor’s Khalifa City A branch from AED 900. It is recommended to have treatments once a week, for four to six weeks.
