Abu Dhabi Week spoke to fashion designer and founder of bint thani, Khulood Thani, the first Emirati to get her masters in Fashion Management and Marketing from ESMOD Paris.

Tell us more about yourself. Have you always been interested in fashion?

I have always been really fascinated  by fashion since an early age, whereby my eldest sister was doing amazing fashion illustrations. And aside from that I always liked to be very individualistic in terms of my own style.

Explain more about your label, bint thani. What was the idea and inspiration behind it?

The brand’s design inspirations are rooted in fashion, history, films, arts and culture, together creating a compelling couture-like collection.

What is styling? How can one successfully style themselves with inspiration from both East and West ideas of fashion?

I think now we are living in a more globalised world, and fashion is one way of communicating who we are. Within my collection of turbans although it focuses on a certain trend, that has been travelling from one country to another. The Paris fashion scene was inspired by the Ottoman Empire during the 1900, 1920s and then the trend was back in a slightly different style in the 60s, and now it’s an element of style for many GCC nationals.

How has your recently launched collection been received and what did it feature?

My recent collection of turbans, which I have called “folds & folds,” actually focused on the beauty and usage of the fabrics. Using satin fabric, folds were used to reflect different shades of colour.
