upsidedown

Upside Down (TBA) – Starring Kirsten Dunst, Jim Sturgess and Timothy Spall. Directed by Juan Diego Solanas

Two forbidden lovers live on parallel worlds, with opposite gravitational pulls, and are separated for ten years. If they are to be united again, they must risk  incarceration and the death penalty as well as defying gravity itself.

Adam (Sturgess) and Eden (Dunst) meet on the hilltops between their worlds as children and begin to fall for each other in their teen years. After being discovered, there is a violent altercation, leading Adam to believe that Eden is dead. Ten years later, Adam, who has been working on an anti-gravity product for face cream, sees Eden on TV. He then deceides he has to meet her in the connecting company ‘TransWorld’, which links the two planets, where Eden works.

The visual effects of the film are spectacular but are perhaps undermined by the storytelling. Whilst the concept of the movie is full of possibilities, the plot is a little tired which might indicate Solanas, who also wrote the script, is a better photographer than a writer.

However, for CGI and sci-fi buffs this film will tick most boxes. The visuals are futuristic and the concept behind Solanas’ idea is fascinating. This scientific romance will be out on Thursday 24th October.
