Abu Dhabi Week enthusiastically embraces the tradition of Friday brunch with a round-up of some of the capital’s favourites

 

Every Friday, restaurants across Abu Dhabi prepare to welcome guests for one of the capital’s newer traditions – lining up the chafing dishes, stepping up to the hot plate at the live cooking stations and sharpening the crayons in the children’s corner. So whether you’re looking for a unique brunch experience, a child-friendly option or brunch with a view, there is no shortage of options.

Sheraton Khalidiya

If you’re looking for a conveniently located brunch right in the heart of downtown Abu Dhabi, head to Sheraton Khalidiya. The hotel’s comfortable and relaxed all-day-dining restaurant, La Veranda, features an international Friday brunch with a host of Mediterranean and European favourites every weekend. Choose from a tasty selection of simple dishes prepared on the spot at the live cooking stations where you can tuck into a bowl of steaming, fresh pasta or juicy seafood skewers straight off the grill.

Hyatt Capital Gate

The capital’s leaning hotel stands out from the crowd, not only for its unique Guinness World Record-breaking design but also for its award-winning brunch. Upstairs in the hotel’s main restaurant, 18°, you’ll find the fabulous Sky Brunch with equally impressive views to boot. Feast on a selection of Eastern Mediterranean fare – Italian, Turkish, Greek, Syrian and Lebanese. A dedicated mezze counter with savoury filled profiteroles is only the beginning. St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort

Here’s one for those of you who have a penchant for the finer things in life! Located in Olea restaurant, this brunch offers one of the most stunning backdrops for its brunchers, allowing you to soak up the sea breeze and enjoy the new gourmet station – fois gras and mussels on tap sounds perfect to us! There are 14 live cooking stations, including a new sushi and sashimi counter, while the rhythm from the live jazz band provide the soundtrack. Make your way to Turquoiz afterwards to enjoy the beach and mellow beats from top DJ Chad Phunk.

Grand Millennium Al Wahda

Want a slice of la dolce vita? You should start your weekend with the stylish Italian brunch at Grand Millennium Al Wahda. Hosted in the hotel’s contemporary Porto Bello restaurant, this leisurely affair promises to give guests a true taste of Italy with a selection of authentic dishes – including homemade pizza and some of the freshest pasta in town – alongside a selection of Asian dishes.

If there’s one brunch that is sure to make your belly burst, it’s the Marina Brunch at InterContinental Abu Dhabi. Start at Brazilian restaurant Chamas, where you can sample 15 succulent cuts of meat sliced at your table from a giant skewer – marinated, barbequed and piping hot. Next stop: Europe, where the Belgian Café offers hearty and rich dishes straight from the continent. Try beef sausages, creamy mashed potato and the ever-popular pots of mussels. Then travel to Asia and the Yacht Club for petite mouthfuls of sushi and traditional treats like roast duck quesadillas and wagyu tataki. Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi Yas Island 

On a Friday, Yas Island is normally teeming with brunch-hungry residents, and one of the best reasons is Jing Asia. The Crowne Plaza’s restaurant has an expansive selection of dishes, from made-to-order sushi to live cooking stations, so you won’t be going hungry that’s for sure. We recommend trying the sumptuous grilled meat station for all those carnivores out there! Families can take advantage of the Kid’s Club staff, where arts and crafts, face painting and a bouncy castle are readily available; maybe let the children on the bouncy castle before they tuck into all the yummy desserts.

Al Raha Beach Hotel

Perfect for families, Al Raha Beach Hotel’s Friday brunch offers a great option for both adults and children. The spacious and bright Sevilla restaurant offers great views over the Arabian Gulf and a live band while you tuck into an extensive selection of dishes from the international buffet – including freshly rolled sushi and pasta from the live cooking stations. Meanwhile, the tiny tots will be kept entertained courtesy of a resident clown, the bouncy castle and face painting.

Radisson Blu Abu Dhabi Yas Island

Hosted in Assymetri, Radisson Blu’s Friday brunch presents a mix of the best signature dishes from the hotel’s main restaurants: Belgian Café, Filini and Amerigos. From Mexican crowd-pleasers such as sizzling fajitas and chilli con carne with tacos to twists on Belgian classics such as Thai-style mussels in green curry and sautéed marinated clams, to Italian delicacies like focaccia, olive and mozzarella, there is something for everyone. Finish on a sweet note by sampling a selection of Arabic sweets, assorted pastries and cakes from the dessert station. Novotel Al Bustan

Got a craving for a carvery? Head to Novotel Al Bustan where the hotel’s modern Choice Cut Steakhouse offers a Friday brunch perfect for even the most serious of meat eaters. Relax in the spacious and natural interiors while tucking into the wide selection of meat cuts from prime ribs to corn-fed chicken. There is also a wide selection of salads, fresh mains and even a children’s buffet, featuring chicken nuggets, chips, assorted greens and other favourites.

Novotel Abu Dhabi Gate

For some mussels from Brussels you need the Belgian Café in Novotel Abu Dhabi Gate – its Brussels Brunch is served every Friday. Presenting a host of dishes inspired by traditional European flavours but with an international twist, diners can expect to find a large selection of seafood – such as the ever-popular mussels and fries – accompanied by a tasty selection of salads, cheeses, cold cuts and more. Mains and desserts equally satisfy a wide range of tastes. A live DJ will soundtrack the brunch so you can enjoy a laidback meal with friends.

Holiday Inn Abu Dhabi’s Friday Family Brunch caters to the whole clan, ticking all the boxes for a brilliant brunch.
