Bon appétit!

bonappetit

Nestled in the corner of the garden at Le Méridien is the quaint Le Bistrot restaurant. Along with our friend, we made our way to this charming eatery to try out some contemporary French cuisine.

Le Bistrot has a pleasant environment, with its décor feeling homey and warm with a modern twist to its design. We sat outside on the terrace area as we soaked up the gentle summer breeze and buzzing garden atmosphere as we delved into the vast menu.

We started with one of the classic dishes that you can find here; terrine de foie gras. Neatly presented on a granite slab, the entire dish looked sleek and edgy; the traditional taste partnered with the modern styling was apparent throughout our evening.

Our guest started with the pasteque marineé. Caramalised watermelon with soft goats cheese, pine nuts and aged balsamic vinegar. A fusion of sweet, earthy and sharp flavours whetted our friend’s appetite for more.

Not that it was needed, but we took a lengthy break between courses, encompassing the Mediterranean style of dining and taking our time. Conversation flowed as our mains were subtly brought to our table; the waiting staff here were unobtrusive yet attentive. Our guest, being vegetarian, was told by the staff that if the vegetarian options didn’t take her fancy, the chef de cuisine would make her a dish upon request. Keen to test this out, our fellow diner was gifted with a plate adorned with freshly grilled vegetables including eggplant, onion, tomatoes, zucchini and asparagus. The course was also served with steamed broccoli, carrots and mangetout – safe to say her ‘five-a-day’ checklist was covered. Our decision was simple – entrecote de boeuf. Premium rib-roast steak, fries and a béarnaise sauce were made light work of, as we cleared our plate with nothing to spare.

Pleasantly full but still with room in our tummies we decided to share the surprise au chocolat with Amarena cherry compote. Petite in size, exploding with taste, the combination of the sweet chocolate and the bitter cherries made a perfect partnership on our palate. This meal was très maqnifique.
