ABU DHABI’S bid for Volvo Ocean Race glory next year got a huge boost this week after top round the world sailor and former British Olympian Neal McDonald signed on as performance director for the Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing team.
The six-time Volvo Ocean Race legend brings a tonne of experience with him, having completed more than 200,000 nautical miles in the race over nearly two decades.
McDonald will lead Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing’s technical
programmes, training camps and crew development to streamline the team’s victory pursuit in the 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race, which starts next October in Alicante, Spain.
Meanwhile, Emirati sailing star Adil Khalid has re-signed as a crew member for the gruelling challenge, which visits the UAE capital at the end of next year.
